An Interview with the Manhattan Dinner Club

The Ladies of the Manhattan dinner club turn the tables on our own Jean Joachim
and ask HER the questions!

Questions for Jean from The Manhattan Dinner Club Heroines
Rory – Sassy romance writer, pug rescuer, Hack’s woman.
Bess -  Baker extraordinaire,  owner of Dumpling, small pug with moxie, Whit’s woman.
Brooke – Dinner and a Movie Director, Mom to three pugs: Freddy, Ginger, and Buddy, Pres’ woman
Miranda -  Playwright, dog walker, Mom to Romeo, Juliet and Duffy, her man – a surprise.
********
Rory:     I know why I write romance, I know a lot about love. That’s what Hack says. *blushes* but why do you write romance?
Jean:     I know a lot about love, too, Rory. Love stories come to me, grab me and won’t let go. Besides, I adore a happy ending.
Bess:      Why all the verbiage about food, especially baked goods. I’m not complaining, just curious.
Jean:     I find food sexy. Eating can be a very sensual experience. Remember that scene of the mocha cake tasting with Whit? It was hot, wasn’t it?
Bess:      *Turns on the fan*. Yeah, it was. I still make that cake. And it turns Whit on every time. Oops. He’s gonna kill me.
Jean:     Don’t be embarrassed, all the ladies have the same experience with their men.
Brooke: You describe dinners between the hero and the heroine, sometimes in great detail. Why?
Jean:     I think readers would like to know what kind of food would be in some of these fancy restaurants in New York City. Like, if they were sitting there with you, Pres and his parents, which might they be eating along with you.
Brooke: You know that sounds a little weird, don’t you?
Jean:     *blushes*
Brooke: More than a little actually. *lifts an eyebrow*.
Rory:     You wrote a lot about our sex lives. How did you know so much? Did you plant a camera in my apartment? If you did, Hack wants to see the tapes. LOL.
Jean:     Tell Hack I’m sorry. No cameras, no tapes, just imagination and experience, Rory. Geez, am I going to get into trouble for saying that?
Rory:     Hack will be disappointed. But he might have some rather personal questions for you.
Jean:     Seems to me, Hack doesn’t need lessons from anyone.
Rory:     Got that right! *Rory blushes*.
Jean:     I think this is getting a bit personal here. Maybe we should call it quits now, before I embarrass myself.
Bess:      Yeah, let’s save that for when the guys interview you.

RESCUE MY HEART
A bit about the book
While walking her pug in Central Park, Rory Sampson is run down by a bike. She presses charges against arrogant biker, Dr. Hack Roberts, veterinarian. He plans revenge, only to find himself attracted to the sharp-tongued, soft-hearted writer, who rescues pugs. Will attraction trump antagonism, or will they end up in bad relationships?

Hockey and Vicki Locey

There are some really exciting things happening in the sports world this time of year. The National Football League draft has just concluded. Major League Baseball is off and running. And my beloved National Hockey League is winding down to the Stanley Cup playoffs. It is a great time of year to be a hockey fan! Toss in the fact that my New York Rangers are in the scuffle for the Eastern Conference Championship, and you can see why I`m bouncing up and down.
The Stanley Cup is the pinnacle for NHL teams, players and coaches alike. The Cup has an amazing history filled with neat trivia. For instance, Sir Frederick Arthur Stanley, 1st Baron Stanley of Preston, 16th Earl of Derby, is the man who gave us The Cup. He came to Canada in 1888 to serve as governor-general, which was largely a ceremonial position as the Queen`s representative in the country.
Lord Stanley was an enthusiastic sportsman, and in 1893 he purchased and donated a trophy in his name to be awarded to Canada`s top-ranking amateur hockey club. That same year Lord Stanley returned to England, so he never saw a Stanley Cup game.
And The Cup isn`t just for men! Twelve women have their names inscribed on the Cup. The first was Marguerite Norris, who was the president of the Detroit Red Wings for their 1954-55 season victory. Sonia Scurfield is the only Canadian woman to have her name inscribed; she was the co-owner of the 1988-89 champion Calgary Flames.
The road to The Cup is a tough one, both physically and mentally for the teams and their loved ones. In my "To Love a Wildcat" erotic hockey romance series, the Philadelphia Wildcats are fighting for their chance to hoist Lord Stanley`s cup. Whether they win or lose the championship, I can`t say, but I will say that every novel in the series is a win for romance readers! If you`re a fan of hockey or not, my sexy Wildcat men and thier strong women will surely capture your heart.
My next book in the series, O Captain! My Captain! has a tentative release date of July 9th. The third novel is another character driven telling of family, strength, struggles, and love. It asks this question: Can two forty something`s rediscover romance even though they`ve both been crosschecked by love before?

Blurb for Pink Pucks & Power Plays

Viviana Land just can`t seem to say no her younger sister. Somehow, the curvaceous society page reporter gets lassoed into serving as her niece's Busy Bee scout leader. One overheated engine later, Viviana and her girls find themselves in the Green Hills Ice Rink. Enter Alain Lessard, the charmingly handsome defenseman for the Philadelphia Wildcats, who is donating his summer to coaching the youth league.

When our intrepid reporter is given the opportunity to write the break-out story of her career, Viviana leaps at the chance. Thinking it would be easy to flirt and tease some juicy tidbits out of Alain, Viviana soon finds herself falling for the sensual, younger, kind-hearted man. Will she put aside her virtual pen for a chance to stay at her new paramour`s side? Or will Viviana finally get away from those mundane bakery opening articles by using the man she may possibly be falling in love with?

Blurb for A Most Unlikely Countess
Painfully shy Liz Argon probably shouldn`t be dreaming of Veikko Aho, star goalie for the Philadelphia Wildcats. As she works side by side with 'The Count of the Crease' on his memoirs, she finds herself falling for the handsome goaltender. His tender ways with her and her mentally fragile mother are slowly claiming her heart. If only Veikko wasn`t already engaged to a woman far better suited to move in to 'The Count`s' world. In book two of the To Love a Wildcat series, we`ll see if a glass slipper can survive in the rough and tumble world of professional ice hockey.

You can find Pink Pucks & Power Plays, the first book of the To Love a Wildcat series, and A Most Unlikely Countess, the second book in the series at the Secret Cravings Publishing Store as well as all other major retailers. It is recommended that you read the series in order.

V.L. Locey loves worn jeans, belly laughs, anything romantic, Greek mythology, New York Rangers hockey,  comic books and coffee. (Not necessarily in that order.) She shares her life with her husband, her daughter, one dog, two cats, a steer named after a famous N.H.L. goalie,  a pig named after a famous President, and a flock of assorted domestic fowl.
V.L. is a self-published and conventionally published author. She is a proud Torquere Press and Secret Cravings Publishing author. When not writing romantic tales, she can be found enjoying her day with her menagerie in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania with a cup of fresh java in hand.  She can also be found online on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and GoodReads.

I love to meet new friends and fans! You can find me at Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google +, and Goodreads.

Bluebonnets for Elly

I started writing BLUEBONNETS FOR ELLY during National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) with the goal of creating a love story. However, as I got into the plot and began to know my characters better, Elly's grandmother keep butting in. I finally had to let Granny have her say. The end result is a book that not only shows the romance between a man and a woman, but also the relationship between a grandmother and her granddaughter. I hope readers enjoy the interaction between these two women, as well as the sparks that fly between Elly and Derek.
Bluebonnets for EllyBlurb:
When Elly Macauley's fiance leaves her for another woman, she flees to her grandmother's home in small town Shannon Ridge Texas. After all, Granny needs help to heal from a broken ankle and her granddaughter is the logical person to help. Elly hopes that together they can recover from their wounds.
Derek White returns to Shannon Ridge--his hometown--to leave behind the trauma from his wife's disappearance. His landscaping business is thriving and he has become a part of the town again, but his life isn't going as planned. After one kiss from Elly Macauley, he wonders if it's time to take another chance on love.
When the two meet, there's an instant attraction. But is Derek legally free? Rumors fly about Derek, and Elly questions whether she can trust him. When Elly's ex-fiance calls, she must decide--give him a second chance or gamble on a man whose past may end their love before it starts.
(In keep with Sweet Craving Publishing's requirements, BLUEBONNETS FOR ELLY is a sweet romance. Although there's plenty of fooling around, the main event takes place behind closed doors.)
Excerpt:
Derek stared in his rear view mirror and took another look at Elly as he left the driveway. That tight T-shirt fit her like a coat of paint, and when she bent to pick up the shovel and he’d caught a glimpse of pink panties cupping her butt, he was pretty sure his mouth fell open.
Damn.
He let out his breath in a whoosh.
And the taut muscles in her legs—long legs that went from pink-painted toenails all the way up to heaven. Derek felt a stirring in his jeans when a snapshot of that vision clicked in his mind.
Damn.
And when she asked if he saw anything else he wanted, he’d had to bite back the answer that came to mind. Oh, yeah. He’d definitely be buying more of her grandpa’s tools, and he was sure interested in anything else she had to offer.
For the first time in many years, he found himself really drawn to a woman, wanting to get to know her better in all kinds of ways. The feeling surprised and pleased him. Sure, she was damned good looking, but her kindness toward her grandmother and the way she didn’t seem to fuss about her appearance attracted him too. A nice woman—not at all like some he’d been with since Jeanette.
When he’d seen Elly at the rummage sale, he hadn’t realized she was so tall. At least five foot ten—maybe more. Today, he saw that her height almost matched his own. Her body would be a perfect fit for his.
Hot damn.
A vision of deep brown eyes and wild red hair sealed the deal.
Hell, don’t forget those long legs.
Oh, there was no way he could forget those legs.
He gripped the steering wheel tighter and stared straight ahead, realizing he’d better guide his mind away from the direction it was heading and pay attention to the road or he’d wind up in a ditch.

Author Bio:
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, I've been writing one thing or another since childhood. My first romantic story was written in elementary school, in pencil on lined paper. (My dad saved it.) The heroine got a kiss as the happy ending. I still have diaries from my school days, one of which inspired my first book, I.O.U. SEX.
I love to travel and keep journals (written and photographic) of each trip. Most exciting and memorable place I've been? I walked halfway across Spain -- from León to Santiago de Compostela -- with my daughter-in-law and her mother. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience I'll treasure always.
When not writing, I like to make quilts, sew, garden, take photos, read, have lunch with friends, and (like Granny in BLUEBONNETS FOR ELLY) spend as much time as possible with my granddaughter.
