Walt Jeffries is trying to bring new business to his dying town when Kate returns.  Her digging up the past may risk everything he’s working toward.  As Kate determinedly delves into the past, Walt finds himself between a rock and a hard place concerning his feeling for her and his duty to the town.  Can the two learn their real legacies, save Walt’s Rottweiler, Festus, and avoid getting killed themselves?

Enchanted Edinburgh

Hey all, Jillian Chantal here. I have a weekend read (only 99 cents!) that's out today (Sept 14) with Sweet Cravings Publishing. It's called Enchanted Edinburgh. It's a story that was inspired by my visit last year to Scotland. I rode the train up from London and from the moment I walked out of the train station and around the corner into Old Town Edinburgh, I was totally enchanted. One of the first things I said was that I could totally understand where JK Rowling got the inspiration for Harry Potter.

As I glanced around, I could imagine a wizard in the house on the corner, a troll living at that place with the turret and various other magical beings strolling the streets in their capes, robes and pointy-toed shoes. The place lit my writer's heart right up and burned the fires of creativity into my soul.

This story is a little bit fantasy and a little bit magical and a whole lot romantic.

I had no choice but to name this story Enchanted Edinburgh since the place captured my psyche so completely. This story practically wrote itself and I hope readers will enjoy it.  Buy link

Blurb:

Working on her doctoral dissertation has been stressful for Jenna Monroe, an American studying at Edinburgh University. She’s writing about the mythological kingdom of Camelot which historians believe was above the City of Edinburgh at a place called Arthur’s Seat near Salisbury Crag. She hikes up to the crag for inspiration, and while resting there, meets a man in a hooded cape.
The man introduces himself as Art, the son of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere. A castle appears out of the mist and the man escorts her inside to dine. Believing it to be a vivid dream brought on by too much stress, Jenna shrugs off the encounter.  She’s later shocked when she sees the man from her dream in town.

It Only Takes a Minute...to Fall in Love

My latest story is called It Only Takes a Minute..... to Fall in Love.  It's the first of three stories with the same characters.

This story is set in Greenwich United Kingdom. The heroine is 48 years old and the hero is 55. I wanted to write a story with an older man and woman since it seems like most romantic heroes and heroines are in their twenties or thirties.

It was a fun one to write since I was able to focus on some things that aren't usually focused on. The heroine has been a widow for a period of time and she hasn't been sexually active in a while. Her body issues are the thing that seems to be holding her back. She can hardly believe this man she meets in the park would want to be with her after all. She's had surgery and is concerned about the scar on her abdomen.

What do you think about older heroes and heroines and the issues they face? Would you want to read a book with older characters?

Antoinette Blake, an American in England on a visit to her adult daughter, takes the “grand-dog” for a walk in the park. While there, she meets a British actor she’s had a crush on forever. She owns all his movies and has fantasized about meeting him.
Adam Knowles is as charming as Antoinette always imagined he’d be and she’s delighted when he asks to spend the afternoon with her. The more she gets to know him, the more she likes him but in the back of her mind is the fact that even though he’s over fifty and she’s in her forties, he has his pick of young actresses to be his companion.
Her insecurities with her body and her age threaten to mar a splendid day. One she’d only dreamt could come true.

SCP AUTHOR FLOSSIE BENTON ROGERS DO YOU BELIEVE IN GHOSTS?

With book two of the Wytchfae series about to be released, I’m taking the opportunity to glance back at the first book in the paranormal romance series, Wytchfae - Runes. Let’s take a peek at one of the types of otherworldly beings in the story, and a favorite of readers—the shade, shadow, specter, spirit, wraith, apparition, poltergeist, phantasm—fondly known as The Ghost. While many different kinds of hauntings are on record, a ghost is commonly considered to be the spirit of a dead person that has not moved on, but rather stays to interact with the living. Some ghosts are hunky, some spooky, and some downright dangerous. Here are my favorites.

Among the hunkiest is the spirit portrayed by Patrick Swayze in the aptly titled, Ghost. The movie is well done with chemistry between the two stars, humor in the form of Whoopi Goldberg, and drama provided by the bad guys and Swayze’s character trying to communicate with and save his woman. In the end his transition to the light is sad but cathartic.

Another cool ghost who is also a main character is the kid in Neil Gaiman‘s The Graveyard Book. The story is whimsical, endearing, and engaging, and you really root for the boy.

Topper is one of my old time favorites, both the movies and the television show. Dapper, sharp, and cerebral, Topper haunts a ritzy couple and a floppy eared dog. My writing buddy, 14-year old Basset hound Daisy Josette, has similar “never miss a nuance” ears.

Bobby Singer in the television series, Supernatural, takes the cake (or pie, eh, Dean?) for the most cantankerous but lovable ghost. Intrepid viewers wanted him to hang around and continue haunting those Winchester brothers. No one ever gave Sam and Dean good ole “what for” like Bobby—and lived to tell it.

While I get a kick out of all the ghosts in Wytchfae - Runes, my heart belongs to the sexy Viking, Ingvar. He endured beaucoup trouble during life, including dealing with greedy kings, sorcerers, and a murdered sister.

A dismal afterlife soon followed and stretched out over a thousand years. Despite her Celtic heritage and mysterious witchery, the heroine Kelly is a ray of sunshine to the beleaguered Viking. Kelly and Ingvar will make a cameo appearance in Wytchfae 3.

WYTCHFAE – RUNES: Combine one faery witch and one hot Viking ghost and what do you get? Supernova attraction. Can they evade their enemies long enough to fan the flame?
One line teaser: Kelly had never been turned on by a ghost before.

Where I Write - M.S. Spencer

Let’s see: how to condense my life into a single paragraph? Ah, forget it. Here’s my life story (so far):

Although I’ve lived and traveled in five continents, the last 30 years have been spent mostly in Washington, D.C. as a librarian, Congressional staff assistant, speechwriter, editor, birdwatcher, kayaker, policy wonk, non-profit director and parent.  I hold a BA from Vassar College, a Diploma in Arabic Studies from the American University in Cairo, and Masters in Anthropology and in Library Science from the University of Chicago.  Once I escaped academia (for which my mother never forgave me) I worked for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. Department of the Interior, in several library systems, both public and academic, and at the Torpedo Factory Art Center.  Today I divide my time among Virginia, Maine and Florida, and write full time.

I am blessed with two fabulous grown children but only one cat (down from three, plus a dog, a snake and two hamsters).  It’s a quiet household now, but since my study window looks on a park and river there is plenty of wildlife to distract me from my writing.  Here’s a picture of my view:

This is my study:
As you can see, my work place is exceedingly neat. This is because I stuffed all my junk into the drawers before taking the shot. I use a laptop and although I have wi fi, I work only in the study. It has the best view (see above), plus it’s close to the bathroom. Oh, and that way I can separate work from the rest of the house. Which is kind of silly, since I write constantly throughout the day, stopping now and then to eat or walk or find something, anything, else to do.  I love my desk—got it free from a local actors group who’d used it as a prop. It has two leaves that pull out on either side so I can be surrounded on three sides by piles of stuff.

I now have six books published and one on the way. Like many other authors, my first book was written in a series of spiral notebooks. No, wait, I take that back. I wrote my very first novel on my first computer, a Kaypro (anyone remember those?). I hadn’t mastered copying onto a floppy disk yet, so I printed out one copy on those perforated paper sheets in one long, endless stream.  And my husband in a cleaning frenzy…threw…it…out. Serves me right for sticking it in a drawer and forgetting about it. Didn’t do that again.

I’d love to hear from you:

Animal Rights at the Rodeo

-->

Meet Rachel Fox, heroine of THE BULL RIDER AND THE BARE BOYCOTTER. Rachel, an animal rights activist, gets attention for her cause by running naked in front a bucking bull, while 10,000 angry rodeo fans watch.

Rachel’s from Brooklyn, NY, a borough full of passionate people.  When we first meet her, she’s had a tough year: her mother died, her boyfriend left, and she learns she’s infertile.  To top it all off, she just lost her job caring for bovines at the Brooklyn Zoo.

Taking advice from her Aunt Bess, an activist from way back -- “A good, old-fashioned cause always gets a woman’s mind off her problems” -- Rachel decides to go west.  Having cared for bulls for many years, she’s convinced that bull riding abuses those
animals.  Spurs cut hides, bull ropes chafe and electronic prods damage nervous systems.  She’s on a mission to improve things for the bulls, and to keep her mind off her troubles.

With her long dark hair, big brown eyes and olive skin, Rachel looks a lot like Kim Kardashian but with a lot less attitude and a bigger rear end.  While in Brooklyn Rachel is considered full figured, at the rodeo, she fits in perfectly.

Then Rachel runs naked in front of Logan Cooper’s bull and she meets her match.  Sparks fly between the handsome cowboy and the bare boycotter, except she’s trying to shut down the rodeo and he’s not going to let her.

Book Description:
Animal right activist Rachel Fox is a woman with a mission. The plan is to step into bull rider Logan Cooper’s ring wearing nothing but a poster calling the rodeo a ‘blood sport’. While rescuing this passionate protester from a nineteen hundred pound charging bull Logan decides he likes what he sees. Only problem, he’s got to direct Rachel’s love away from the livestock and onto him. With the press hot on their heels, because who isn’t interested in a story about a bull rider and a naked protester, Logan brings the dark haired, curvy figured Brooklynite to his Montana ranch.
Except, now that he’s got Rachel in his bed he’s nervous his annoying, problematic brothers and surly preteen nephew will scare her off. But when Rachel meets Logan’s deeply flawed family she realizes the bulls aren’t the only ones who need saving, the Cooper brothers need her help too. The only problem is Rachel has a secret, after believing she was infertile, it turns out that this sexy bull rider may have changed her childless fate forever.
